Pacific Poker Review

Editor’s Opinion
Pacific Poker is typically known for being the poker room with the worst players and worst software. To some extend this is still true; however PacificPoker has updated their software and made a series of improvements and has killed most of the most annoying bugs. It may very well be that Pacific Poker has finally decided to focus on their poker room instead of their large casino business (Casino-On-Net, 888). Despite of the bad software functionality Pacific Poker has still experienced a massive growth during 2005 and will most likely continue to do so during 2006. Pacific Poker is closely associated with CasinoOnNet and some of the casino gamblers blow their winnings on the poker tables from time to time. This may be the reason why Pacific Poker is known as being: “The home of the worst online poker players” – and in our opinion this statement is correct. If you want easy games Pacific Poker is a great online poker room.

Features
The Pacific Poker software is still a little behind the standards of their competitors. It is not possible to multi-table and the hand history is still stored in some ancient graphical system - it looks nice, but it is virtually useless. New features are being implemented at Pacific Poker – it seems like they have finally decided to become a serious poker room instead of a casino provider. The annoying hotkeys can now be disabled and it is now possible to chat without blowing money on wild hotkey raises/folds. The annoying hand result bar and congratulation announcement can also be disabled. PacificPoker has all the necessary features but nothing more.

Poker Games Offered
The most popular online poker games are available at Pacific Poker. Ring games are available in fixed limit, pot-limit and no-limit variations. The games are Texas Holdem, Omaha and 7-card stud (Omaha and seven-card stud are available both in Hi and HI/LO variations). The tournament action has also taken off very nicely. The growth in the number of tournaments through 2005 has been massive, and a lot of attractive online poker tournament are now available for players at all levels of expertise.

Software and Graphics
Pacific Poker is available in a download version where an application is installed on your computer and a non-download java application which runs from your browser. The non-download version makes it possible for Mac users to play online poker at PacificPoker. The software is basic and good looking. The recent update has made the graphics a lot nicer and the only thing missing is a four colored deck. The lobby section is also well structured and easy to use.

Player traffic
Despite huge problems with the software throughout 2005 Pacific Poker has grown to be one of the largest online poker rooms. The traffic has increased for both ring games and tournaments and games are going 24/7 on all limits.

Soft Competition
Pacific Poker is known to be a major fish pond and even though a few more professionals seem to frequent the high limit tables on a regular basis the competition is still quite manageable. Pacific Poker is without question a great place to play for money and the games are very juicy.

Loyalty Bonus
PacificPoker.com has an ongoing loyalty bonus scheme. The point are automatically accumulated through playing ring games and for every $10 bet in a raked hand you earn 1 bonus point. 100 bonus points converts into $1 in the lobby section – a nice little bonus for regular players.

Promotions
Pacific Poker runs a lot of different promotions. They are announced through e-mail and following the instructions can often award you a cash bonus.

Customer Service
Quick response time via e-mail correspondence and the employees are more than helpful. Players have reported that the telephone support is slow, but our test call was answered within 30 seconds.

Financial Security
Very secure. Their transactions are done by their mother company who have serviced more than 20.000.000 online players since 1996.

Banking
VISA, MasterCard, NETeller, Citadel, FirePay, Wire Transfer, bank transfer, PaySafeCard, Credit card, Debit card, PrePaidATM, bank draft is available. The cash-out process is slow but always reliable.
