Jack Keller - WSOP Winner

Updated 2008/2009
Jack Keller was always known on the poker tables as The Murderous Player. This aggressive player won the 1984 WSOP bracelet in the main event and another in Seven Card stud event. Sometimes players argued if Jack was over aggressive and many agreed too, that’s also how he also got his nickname of murderous. Many a times a question propped up on the poker tables, “Is Jack a good lowball player?” and the answer always the same, “murderous.”

Jack also earned the nickname, “Gentleman Jack,” this though had nothing to do with the poker world and he got it when he worked in the stock market from his substance abuse. Jack had served in the United States Air force before he turned to the poker tables. Since turning professional he had to his credit 3 WSOP bracelets, two in 1984 and the third in 1993. He was a big promoter of PL Omaha as he thought it superseded Seven-card stud in popularity and he loved it so much.

Sadly, he died in Tunica on December 5, 2003 and at that time his live earnings exceeded $3,100,000. He had 24 money finishes in the WSOP. He was inducted into the 1984 Poker Hall of Fame. One of his three children, Kathy Kolberg is also a professional poker player. He had a remarkable poker career and about the only thing that tarnished this sparkling career was the substance abuse that bothered some people more than others, hence his later nickname.
